Poetry is an art form that largely pleases the mind. It appeals to the reader’s imagination and is expressed through the medium of language.
There are various different genres of poetry which largely depend on the time period during which the poems were written. Ancient poems were more epic and philosophical such as the Odyssey, the Ramayana, etc. Poems in and around the 16th century were more romantic, lyrical and about nature. Such poets include William Wordsworth, Robert Frost, Lord Tennyson, etc. Modern poetry such as that of T.S. Eliot is more dark, realistic and at times negative.
Poetry can also be very spiritual and philosophical.
Most of the recent poems I’ve written are more spiritual. Some could even be considered devotional. Some of the earlier ones are more mundane though.
